Sailors were greeted to Lake Ponchartrain and Southern Yacht Club to light winds, flat water, and a slight chill in the air. A combination of 10 coed and women's teams hit the water right on time and racing began promptly at 10:00am. The Southern Yacht Club race committee, led by Peter Hopkins, did a fantastic job keeping up with a breeze that oscillated throughout the day from the North and East before ratcheting to the ESE by the day's end. In all 6 races were sailed in both A and B divisions in 3-7 knots of breeze.
Many thanks to the Tulane Sailing Team for ferrying the boats over in the morning to make things easier for the competitors, and to the Southern Yacht Club team for providing excellent races and a hot meal for the sailors and spectators throughout the day!
Sunday greeted the sailors with very different conditions than the previous day. The temperature began to drop and an annoying mist accompanied a building Northerly breeze and steep chop. Racing began again at 10:00am with the breeze ranging from 13-17 knots and gusts a little higher. A division was able to complete a set and come in for their rotation. Shortly thereafter the breeze began to build for B division and by halfway through race 7B, the breeze climbed above 20knots and a good portion of the fleet was capsized and required assistance. With the conditions showing no signs of improving and a forecasted continued temperature drop below freezing and building winds, the decision was made to send the sailors in, where racing was ultimately called for the day. The cold and wet sailors were happy to find some hot coffee and comfort food (red beans and rice) awaiting them once they came to shore and trophies were handed out, again thanks to the gracious hosts at Southern Yacht Club.
Since racing ended after race 7B, race 8A was dropped from the scores, and in the end the results were very close. Congratulations to the Golden Eagles from Marquette on the close win that came down to the last race, and many thanks to all of the teams who drove from far away to help make the 2017 Sugar Bowl Interconference Regatta a success.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
