McCurdy Memorial Regatta

Sailors arrived at 9 am to a low 70s day with 5-6 kts sustained wind gusting to 8 kts from the NE. The first race started at 10 am with the wind clocking right throughout the day. Around 1 pm it began drizzling, then at 2:30pm the wind dropped to less than 4 kts which is where we called the day. We had completed three full rotations with an optimistic wind forecast for Sunday of 15 kts of wind we hoped to finish most of the rotations then.

Sailors arrived at 10am to an extreme low tide and weather remnants from Hurricane Matthew moving along the coast. It started out a rainy day but promptly after the skippers meeting the skies cleared to what seemed like the start of a nice day, with temperatures in the mid 60s and 14-16 kts sustained wind gusting to 20 kts the first race began at 11am. We set off the first race of the day, 7A, with one DNS and one DNF because of capsized boats. Immediately after we sent all the boats in as the wind quickly increased to 30 kts. This concluded the day as the conditions weren’t expected to subside enough to allow for safe sailing.
