The MAISA Coed Conference Championship, War Memorial Regatta, is being hosted by Cornell University out of the Merrill Family Sailing Center. Sailors arrived expecting a difficult day of racing, and challenging conditions for the race committee. Breeze started off out of the SE with more than expected around 8-10mph and the first set was completed without any delays. In B divisions first race the breeze began to soften, the race finished in a light southerly, and subsequently died off. From this point forward the breeze would pulsate in and out.
The race committee members worked diligently throughout the day to complete as many quality races as possible. Oscillations were 50-60 degrees at times and it seemed when the wind came in it only stuck around for about 15 minutes, then died again. A few races had to be abandoned. We completed race 3B just before the posted sunset time of 6pm and called it a day.
We will begin Sunday with race 4B in what appears to be a favorable forecast.
No Breakdown, Redress, or Protests were filed.
Sunday had a much better forecast, and at the beginning of the day it seemed to be dialed in as expected. We started race 4B at 9:20am on the nose with a W5 in a 15mph Southerly breeze. A division came out and sailed races 5 and 6 in a similar breeze direction, but slightly lighter around 8-10mph. At this point in the day things started to shift to the West and become more unstable. Race committee worked hard to get the course squared up for races 5 and 6 B in a SW breeze that began to build around 15-20mph. The breeze continued to shift to the West, and while it's uncommon for Cayuga Lake, we had a west breeze dropping over the hill and with gusts up to 25mph. Breeze settled into the WNW and top gusts were 32mph making for some difficult racing with huge velocity changes. In total 8 races in each division were completed for the regatta.
The fleet of Turbo 420's held up exceptionally well in the breezy conditions, easily the most breeze they have seen since we have had them at Cornell. Can't thank WhiteCap Composite enough for their support and for providing us with a great product.
Cornellians Max Joh-Carnella, Sam Webster, Alex Gatto, Connor Juckniess, Daniel Birmingham, Alex Woloshyn did a fantastic job on the water spending their weekend adjusting the course for the varying conditions. On shore the entire Cornell Team was extremely helpful and did a great job with scoring and the rotation.
Thank you to Doc Sullivan, George Hock, Colin Keil, and Robert Reiser for serving as the judges for the event. There were a number of protests filed resulting in one DSQ for UPenn in race 6B. No redress or breakdowns filed.
Congratulations to Georgetown for once again showing MAISA that they are the team to beat. And also to the top 8 teams who will move on to the ACC's at Old Dominion in two weeks. (Georgetown, St. Mary's, George Washington, Cornell, Hobart W/S, SUNY Maritime, Old Dominon, and Navy)

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
