28 sailors vying for four berths to the ICSA Singlehanded Nationals were greeted with a typical Fall New England morning with temps in the upper 50's and a 10-15 knot Northeasterly. Eight races were completed today on Niantic Bay in a very tricky NE breeze ranging from 4-14 knots. Large wind shifts could last a large portion of the beat or they could last only a few seconds. All races were W4's with the RC shooting for a 25 minute course length. One sailor retired for the day due to a nagging shoulder injury. No Protests were filed. Greg Hall and John Moulthrop served as the regatta judges. They heard one redress hearing resulting in a corrected score and enforced rule 42 multiple times on the starting line and at least twice on the runs. Brian Swingly served all of NEISA well as the NEISA rep and also went above and beyond and brought two coach boats and a judge boat to the event! Tomorrow the RC will shoot for six more races. Juan Perdomo from Harvard leads the fleet with the Yale boys nipping at his heals. With six possible races left, the qualifying spots are still up for grabs.
Racing started at 10:30 in a light and shifty northerly with a little current pushing boats upwind. Most sailors did not factor the current in their starting plan causing most of the fleet to be over in the first two tries to get race nine going. During the race large shifts and holes made decision making very difficult. During the last leg and a half the forecasted SE began to fill. The course was quickly reset and races ten through fourteen were sailed in a gorgeous 10-12 knot breeze. At points the breeze dropped to around 6-8 but only for a leg or two here and there. Once again we need to recognize Brian Swingly for being the NEISA rep and for supplying 3/4 of the regatta support. And we appreciate the efforts of our two judges, John Moulthrop and Greg Hall who strictly enforced rule 42. Kristen Healy (sat) and Sarah Healy (sun) did a fantastic job on the RC boat. Congrats to Juan Perdomo, Malcolm Lamphere, Nic Baird and Mitchell Kiss for qualifying for the Singlehanded Nationals at ODU in November.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
