Mt. Hope Bay/Southern 1

Summary

Saturday, September 12:

While the temperature was great and the skies mostly sunny, the wind forecast wasn't promising with a light northerly going left all day. By the time racing started around 10:20, the breeze had lightly filled from the south. The ebbing current had a big impact on the racing. The race committee didn't do a great job of managing the course length with the breeze and current; some races were 15 minutes, with one lasting more than 40 minutes. By 2pm a 8-10knot sea breeze filled to close out the day.

All courses were windward leewards twice around. 6 A and B races were sailed. One protest was heard resulting in a DSQ.

Many thanks to Hawks undergrads Ed Lebens, Enzo DiGioia, Sam Dorothy, and Nicole Gambacorta for helping to run the races.

Sunday, September 13:

A light and shifty N, occasionally E breeze prevailed. The ebbing current remained a challenge for some teams. It was mostly overcast until the last B set when downpours drenched everyone. I think the spectators were happy to retreat into the Richard L. Bready Mt. Hope Bay Sailing and Education Center when the rain started.

4 more races were sailed in A and B division.

Many thanks to Hawks undergrads Ed Lebens, Peter Forsberg, Haley Clancy, and Jennifer Agell for helping with race committee duties.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
