The Hatch Brown Trophy honors Boston University alum and MIT's 3rd sailing master Harold "Hatch" Brown. Hatch won A division for BU at college nationals when he raced for BU and later went on to share the sport he loves to thousands of beginners and elite racers alike. Hatch had a tremendous impact at MIT and on college sailing as a whole. Hatch lives in Winthrop and still runs racing and coaching for the Cottage Park YC frostbite and youth programs. In the spirit of Hatch's love for both schools, the trophy is co-hosted by MIT and Boston University.
It was a wild day on the river with wind ranging from westerly through the south to easterly. The first half of the day was sailed in a very tricky SSW with lots of shifts and holes. The breeze later swung all the way to the ESE and filled nicely for the last 4 races in each division.
Thanks to MIT Sailing Master Fran Charles for running the starts with BU undergrads Meri Harrington, Andrew Stoycos in the finish boat with Robby Gearon scoring and BU coach Connor Needham as markset. MIT dockstaff Wally Corwin and Hugh Dorehty assisted ashore. Thanks to CGA coach Chris Clevan and Bowdoin's Frank Pizzo for hearing 1 protest resulting in a DSQ and 1 redress (granted).
A northerly breeze was shifting in bizarre ways all day long between NW-N-NE. An attempt was made to get to 15 races but could not quite be pulled off so racing concluded at Race 14 for all three divisions.
Yale did a great job of winning two out of three divisions to take home the victory. Roger Williams rallied all day to finally overtake Boston College to finish second overall.
The Terrier Race Committee of Emily Crotcan, Emily Walker, Alex Moreno, and Hannah Davis did an outstanding job of recording finishes at both the top and bottom of the courses all day long. Evan Cook and Bobby Martin heard protests and requests for breakdowns at the end of the day.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
