NE Singlehanded Championship

Summary

Saturday, September 27:

Twenty sailors showed up to Niantic Bay Yacht Club to a great Northeasterly. One race was sailed and another started only to be abandoned on the first downwind leg due to the lack of wind. The sailors were sent in to an early lunch break. A light sea breeze filled and race two was started at 1pm. Five more races were sailed in the light sea breeze. All courses were W4's and around 25 minutes in length. No protests were filed because 720's were used instead of the protest room. Coast Guards Avery Fanning leads the fleet with five races remaining. Thanks go out to Caroline Colwell for helping RC work and Jonathan Farrar for doing mark boat duties. Race eight warning signal is at 10:30 tomorrow.

Sunday, September 28:

The sailors arrived to day two of the NEISA Men's Singlehanded Champs to zero wind. However, we waited ashore, a promising sign of a sea breeze appeared around Black Point. By 11am all sailors were on the water and and racing began just after 11:00 in a light but stable southerly. Five races were needed to complete the 12 race maximum. Each race the breeze increased slightly finally maxing out at 8-12 knots for the last race. The right shore played a major role in tactics but the savvy sailor was able to pick and choose shifts up the middle and sometimes left to make gains. All courses were W4's. There was one general recall and no protests. Going into the final race, five sailors were in the hunt for the final two spots. In the End, Avery Fanning from the US Coast Guard Academy demolished the fleet. In second place for the second year in a row was Mitchell Kiss from Yale. grabbing third and winning the last race was freshman Malcolm Lamphere from Yale and fourth was another freshman, Martim Anderson from Roger Williams. Cangrats to our NEISA representative for the ICSA Laser Performance Singlehanded National Championship in November. Many thanks to kate gaumond for RC work and again to Conn College and The US Coast Guard Academy for their coach boats.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
