Laser South

Sailors arrived to the Robert Crown Center this morning to cloudy skies and a very light and shifty Easterly breeze. After a short skippers meeting, the fleet was sent out to Annapolis Harbor just off of Bembe Beach. One race was completed in just over the 3 knot wind limit before the fleet was sent in for lunch. After lunch, more rain fell and the breeze went away for a while, so we postponed in the RCC until around 1600, when a light Northwesterly began to fill. The light NW breeze materialized into a substantial 10-15 knots, and three additional races were completed before racing was called for the day at around 1745. One breakdown was filed for a tiller extension grip which was denied. A big thank you to Ensign Killian Corbishley for moving marks around and to our judge Dillion Pavia for laying out the justice of the Racing Rules of Sailing on the water and in the protest room. Tomorrow's forecast is for somewhat light breezes out of the Northwest.

Sunday morning graced sailors with a bit more breeze than Saturday and sunnier skies, albeit some slightly chilly temperatures. The Laser fleet hit Annapolis Harbor this morning at 0930 in a puffy and very shifty Northeasterly breeze. Five races were completed, all W4s, in the harbor just off of Triton point before the breeze died to an unsailable level and the fleet was sent in for lunch at 1230. At around 1345, a light Northwesterly began to fill and one race was sailed in the Severn River just off of the Robert Crown Center before that breeze also faded and a Southeasterly breeze began to fill. The course was then reset in the harbor, however two general recalls prevented any additional races from being completed before the 1500 cut off time. In all, nine races were sailed over the weekend, all on a W4 course, and no protests were filed. The top 6 finishers advance and have until Tuesday, September 16th to accept or decline their spot at the Carl Van Duyne regatta. Places 6 through 10 move on to the MAISA Laser Elimination regatta and must also accept or decline their berth by Tuesday the 16th. Another big thank you to Killian Corbishley, USNA '14, for picking up and putting down a lot of marks over the weekend and to Dillon Paiva for keeping things honest on the field.
