Thirteen teams arrived at the new Leighton Sailing Center for the Nicholas Barnett Trophy. President Barry Mills of Bowdoin College led a ceremony for the dedication of the new boathouse to Charles M. Leighton '57. Charlie started the sailing team at Bowdoin and went onto a successful business career. He was the commodore of the NYYC and was the executive Director of US Sailing.
Racing began after 10 am in a light NE breeze with heavy incoming current. The breeze shifted from NW to NE all day long with a current shift mid afternoon. Six races were completed in both divisions. A huge thanks to Tom Peabody '14, Dana Bloch '17, and Syndey Jacques '18 for running races and Phil Koch '16 and Chester Jacobs '17 for moving marks. A big thanks to all the Polar Bears on land that helped with running the land ops.
Racing began on Sunday around 10 in a light northwest breeze. The fleet headed out to Widgeon Cove and raced in great flat water and shifty conditions. Six races were completed in division. A big thanks to the coaches and Chris Loder for helping shuttle sailors to and from the racing area. A big thanks to the Polar Bear army that helped run races and handle the land ops including Tom Peabody '14, Ellis Price '18, Emily Salitan '16, and Hunter Moeller on the RC boat. Thanks to Phil Koch '16 and Chester Jacobs '17 for moving marks. A big thank you to the Barnett family for providing food for breakfast this morning. Bowdoin won the event with MIT second and Tufts third.
