SAISA North Points #5

Summary

Saturday, October 19:

As the sailors stumbled out of their tents at 8 in the morning, they were welcomed by a gentle 3 knot breeze from the WSW. Although we probably could have had a skippers' meeting at Waffle House, we gathered near Lake Lanier Sailing Club's new junior area (which is pretty awesome). Unfortunately, the GT race committee had trouble starting one of their motorboats, so they had to borrow David Reddaway's. The first race kicked off around 10:30 to 11, and racing continued until around 3.

The weather was overcast with a high of 63 degrees, but the breeze was very good. The puffy and shifty wind built throughout the day, peaking around 10 knots. We primarily ran triangle-windward-leeward courses that lasted around 20 minutes each. We were able to get in 6 solid races for both divisions.

The view from the Lake Lanier Sailing Club pavilion was gorgeous. In addition to the collegiate regatta, there were also a windsurfer regatta and a PHRF regatta. Fortunately, there was enough space for everyone to stay out of each other's way. It was a great weekend for sailing.

Special thanks to Matt Sheffield (PRO), Danny Rodriguez, Alex Richardson, Jill Cagz, and Andrew Branch for running race committee. Another special thanks to Alex for taking pictures of everyone on the water. Those will be up on Facebook soon. Special thanks to David Reddaway for letting us steal his boat. One more special thanks to Chris Voith for letting us share LLSC with his windsurfing regatta.

Shoutout to Auburn for showing up Friday night with 4 cars full of people. Shoutout to Michael Reddaway for letting us use his speakers. Shoutout to Joshua Kim for buying some lasers for us to use.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
