The Navy Fall Regatta began with a nice Southerly breeze that filled in at around 10 knots. PRO Kyle Assad set a course off Triton Point and racing began at around 1000. During the first set the with shifted left and remained Southeasterly as it built to the low teens throughout the afternoon. The race committee stayed out there running races all day while the various fleets cycled through a lunch break. A division started in FJs and B division started in 420s and the divisions switched fleets after race 10. C division sailed Lasers and D was in Radials. All races were run on a trapezoid course. During the last set of the day, the wind shifted hard right and got very light, to the point where race 12D was abandoned at the leeward mark. That race will be sailed first on Sunday. Judges Hugh Elliot, David Clinnin and Dick Morin awarded three breakdowns in D division - two for broken top sections and one for a broken traveler block. Three protests were also filed, resulting in two DSQs.
After Racing, competitors were treated to a terrific cookout compliments of the Naval Academy Sailing Squadron Social Committee. While the competitors ate, judges Hugh Elliot, David Clinnin and Dick Morin awarded three breakdowns in D division - two for broken top sections and one for a broken traveler block. They also heard three protests, with one disallowed and the other two resulting in DSQs.
A cold front passed through overnight, which left us with chilly temperatures, sunny skies and Northwesterly 10-15 knot breeze for Sunday's racing, nearly perfect for the fall in Annapolis. PRO Assad and his team of Midshipmen got the trapezoid course set quickly in the Severn River right off the Robert Crown Center and racing began with D division. Despite a number of breakdowns, primarily an A and D divisions that slowed things down a bit, we carried through without a lunch break to finish up all 80 races for the regatta by 1400. Judges Morin, Elliot and Clinnin were on hand again to award three breakdown requests and hear one protest, which was disallowed. Unfortunately, due to an error with the scoring program accepting the scores for the last few races, the competitors were sent home before we could hand out the trophies, but we plan on delivering them to the deserving winners later this fall. Congratulations to the Georgetown Hoyas for winning the 2013 Navy Fall Interconference Regatta.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
