Saturday brought blue skies and warm temps to Mendums and a delay due to lack of wind. Occasional clouds added character to the sky. Chris Loder just hours after moving to Chebeague Island in Maine traveled to UNH and was able to start the regatta with words of wisdom accompanied by an experiential activity. The race committee challenged by shifting breeze from 3-8 in both direction and velocity were able to get 2 A races and 2 B races before the breeze shut down. Overheard from a visiting team member on a call to ???? "...the breeze is all over the place, what do I do?". "Yes I'm in NH at UNH." Apparently the response was something like "... oh go right then left and then right and left and hope you made the right choice, it" shifty as &$%##! $@!." One general recall and great sports conduct made life on the "new" RC Chris Craft easy.
Sunday, with fog lifting off Mendums, crisp temperatures and turning leaves ushering in fall, UNH arrived early to grill 36 Wildcat muffins accompanied by juice and coffee. They were scarfed down with many sailors asking for more. Racing was postponed until 11:30 due to lack of breeze. Kudos to the mark boats who scurried about to try and set a course with oscillating breeze from the SW to SSE for hours (it seemed like days). Finally two A races were sailed and the breeze died. B division is to be complemented for their patience as they sat in breeze on and off for over an hour. Finally the breeze settled in enough and a race was able to be sailed. That was all she wrote. The fleet sailed in. One breakdown was awarded. One general recall and no spins today. Andrew Angione from A&C (Atlantis and Cloudveil - high end sailing and skiing gear) talked about team gear discounts. Race 4A was deleted as there was no matching race for B.
Super thanks go to the following Wildcat sailors - many of whom are new to sailing and who learned a great deal from watching - for their help both on and off the water moving marks like crazy, scoring, grilling and anything else needed. Saturday: Josh, Stef, Chelsea, Devlin, David Sunday: Kendall, Meg, Josh, Stef. Thanks too to alumni Andrew Angione and John Carroll for managing the windward mark boat taking pictures an moving marks ad nauseum.
Check next Thursday Chalk Talk and maybe you'll see yourself from today's racing. Congratulations to both the Vermont Catamounts and The Coast Guard Bears for qualifying for the Capt. Hurst at Dartmouth on Oct. 19-20

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
