Due to the government shutdown the 2013 Carl Van Duyne MAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship was unable to go on as planned at the Merchant Marine Academy. Fortunately, we were able to reschedule the event at the last minute with all of the original competitors at the Naval Academy, with visiting coaches helping to run the races. We set the course in the Chesapeake Bay, just beyond Greenberry Point in NE wind at 10 to 15 knots. The waves were 2-3 feet and it rained off and on throughout the day. Despite the more open water conditions, it was certainly puffy and shifty all day and the sailors had to stay on their toes to avoid trouble. Ten races were completed without a lunch break and 8 more remain for tomorrow. The top four will advance to the ICSA Men's Singlehanded Nationals. Many thanks to David Clinnin, who served as on on the water judge all day.
On Sunday, we set the course int eh same location as the day before with the wind roughly form the same direction. As we began racing, it was a bit windier than before, with steady winds at 15+ knots and 2-3 foot waves. 8 more races were completed on windward leeward courses. Zero protests were filed and one breakdown was granted for a broken rudder. Congratulations to John Wallace from St. Mary's, Nick Valente from SUNY Maritime, Olin Paine from Fordham and regatta winner Greg Martinez from Georgetown for advancing to nationals.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
