Competitors were welcomed to Navy today by a beautiful Fall Annapolis day. All four divisions hit the water this morning at 1000 in a very light Easterly breeze on the harbor. A "Harbor Trapezoid" course was set just off of Triton Point with a long second reach, and a longer last beat with a finish line set far to windward and to starboard of the starting line. Two races were started (one in A and one in B) in the light breeze but both were later abandoned. Afterwards, sailors were sent ashore at 1115 for an extended lunch break and waited for the breeze to fill. At around 1330, the breeze began to fill from the South/Southeast, and sailors were sent back out on Annapolis Harbor. Six races were completed in all four divisions in the afternoon, again using the Harbor Trapezoid course. After sailing all of the competitors were treated to a cookout hosted by the NASS Social Committee.
Thank you to the team of Navy Midshipmen who helped move marks around and run races. Another thank you to the NASS Social Committee and to our Umpire Dave Clinnin who was standing by to hear protests after sailing although there were none.
Navy Fall Sunday was a bit of an improvement on the breeze side of things. Teams arrived this morning to a shifty 10-12 knot Southerly breeze that clocked Southeast throughout the day and built into the low teens. Early on in the day, the course sailed was again a "Harbor Trapezoid" with an extended second reach and last beat. As the breeze began to shift more to the Southeast, we were able to fit the standard tried and true Navy trapezoid into Annapolis Harbor just off of Triton Point. A total of eight races in each division were completed before the three o'clock time limit rolled around bringing the total number of races to 14 for the weekend. One protest was filed in race 11 B resulting in a DSQ, and one request for redress was granted in race 8 C.
A big thanks to the Navy Sailing Team members for moving marks and running the event, Ken Legler and Janel Zarkowsky for hearing a protest, Bill Ward for hearing a request for breakdown, and to Kyle Assad for helping out on Race Committee today. Congratulations to the College of Charleston Cougars for winning Navy Fall 2012.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
