George Warren Smith Trophy

Summary

Saturday, September 29:

George Warren Smith was a professor of aero-astro at MIT and enjoyed racing star boats from the Cape Ann Fleet into his late eighties. Many weekends during the spring and fall seasons were spent helping run collegiate races at MIT. This regatta is an opportunity for many sailors to have a chance to compete for a trophy in a one day format impacting less of their academic study time.

Eight Races were sailed in both divisions in a 5-8 knot northerly. A Division started in the New Collegiate Firefly Dinghy and switched to the technical dinghies after lunch. B sailed techs first and finished in Flies. The Tufts Jumbos rallied in the last set to thwart a hard charging MIT Team as well as a consistent BU Terrier squad which led most of the day.

Two teams did not show which actually worked in everyone's favor as we were able to sail both divisions simultaneously in both fleet's of boats.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
