Competitors were greeted with warm sunny skies and a light 6-7 knot northwesterly. Beginning with a slack tide, sailors were treated to a couple of decent light air races. As things warmed up, an unusual October sea-breeze began to fight the westerly, pulling the wind left, and dropping the consistency of the wind down a couple of notches. As the unusually high astronomical tide really started cranking out the focus became on finding shelter from the current since the wind was barely able to keep boats moving. By race 5B the sea breeze was in an epic battle with the westerly, which unfortunately degraded conditions to the point that the competitors were sailing upwind hiked out on both of the last two legs of the race.
After this, an attempt was made to salvage the rest of the day by waiting to see if the sea-breeze would fill in. During the start of 6B the wind again failed as the sailors could not make way downwind and were swept over the line well before the start. This coupled with the wind shifting another 50 degrees back to the westerly led to an abandonment of the day. At one point competitors saw 10 to 12 knots in one direction as a windsock not 100 yards away was blowing straight out in the exact opposite direction.
Congratulations to Charleston for the win.
Thanks to the UNCW sailors, alumni, faculty, and local volunteers who helped get the best racing that could be had from the day's tough conditions!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
